Frequently Asked Questions

What is Soothe?

Soothe is a crisis-intervention and anxiety relief app for iOS. It guides you through seven evidence-based calming techniques — paced breathing (with seven patterns including 4-7-8 and Box Breathing), 5-4-3-2-1 grounding, progressive muscle relaxation, cold splash, distanced self-talk, yoga nidra, and gratitude meditation — with professional voice narration and karaoke-style word highlighting.

Is Soothe free to use?

Soothe includes a full set of free calming tools. Additional narration voices, font themes, and color themes can be unlocked with a single one-time in-app purchase — no subscriptions.

Does Soothe collect my personal data?

No. Soothe was built with a privacy-first architecture. All personal data (your name, preferences, and usage history) is stored exclusively on your device. We do not require accounts or logins, and we never sell your data. For full details, see our Privacy Policy.

Does Soothe work offline?

Yes. All core calming exercises work offline. An internet connection is only needed as a fallback for voice narration when pre-recorded audio is unavailable.

How does Apple Health integration work?

Soothe can log Mindful Minutes and State of Mind entries to Apple Health after you complete an exercise. This is entirely optional — you control HealthKit permissions through your device’s Settings and can revoke access at any time.

How do I reset my data?

You can reset all settings and stored data from within Soothe’s settings screen. Alternatively, uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data. HealthKit entries persist independently in Apple Health and can be managed through the Health app.

What permissions does Soothe need?

All permissions are optional and requested only when needed:

What are Live Activities?

Soothe uses Live Activities to display your exercise progress on your Lock Screen and Dynamic Island, so you can follow along even when you switch to another app.

What is Crisis SOS mode?

The Crisis SOS button on the home screen launches a curated flow of exercises for acute distress and provides quick access to emergency resources including the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

What age rating does Soothe have?

Soothe is rated 12+ on the App Store due to medical/treatment information content.

I found a bug or have a feature request. How do I report it?

Please email us at support@popcornlabs.com with a description of the issue or your idea. Screenshots or screen recordings are always helpful for bug reports.

Soothe is not a substitute for professional mental health treatment. If you are in crisis, please contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988) or your local emergency services.
